Denim Charlie Dress

I finally got around to do some sewing again!

School's been very busy lately with planning and report writing so it felt really good to have them finally finished and my brain free for some sewing again.  I've actually had this dress halfway done for weeks, but just didn't have the energy for sewing the bias binding on.

This is an old favourite of mine, the Charlie dress by Mingo and Grace.  I love the simple yet stylish shape, although every time I forget how much gathering that flounce takes!  As ever it went together easily, the trickiest part being as ever the bias binding.  As I have in the past I used french seams for the side seams so it was finished nicely at the armholes.

I used to get swept up a lot in new pattern releases and sales and now have a big collection of patterns.  I'm finding more and more I have some self restraint and am trying to only buy patterns if and when I'm ready to make them.  I'm also finding that I keep going back to patterns I've made before.  It's funny how habits can change over time.

The fabric is some Art Gallery Fabrics denim.  I bought a metre and it was plenty for this dress.  The fabric is just gorgeous!  It's lovely and soft and not stiff like other denims I've sewn with.  It's perfect for garment sewing.

Freya was in a good mood earlier in the week and it wasn't raining for a change so it was lovely to get outside for a while.  As ever this dress was perfect for running around in, but it also can look lovely for if we have to go out.

  2. Love both the fabric and the pattern. Indeed a dress that is suitable for any occasion :) I too have a large collection of patterns and find that I am not as impulsive at buying new patterns.

  3. Lovely dress! And fabric is just gorgeous! I really should use this pattern as well, it has just been sitting there in my stash for too long...
