Blue Ishi Dress

This is one pattern I have been eagerly awaiting the release of for some time, the Ishi Dress by Straightgrain patterns.

When I saw the first versions of this I knew it was a dress I really wanted to make.  I'm trying be braver in mixing prints and colours and this seemed the perfect opportunity for that.  Also, giant pockets!!

I had even picked out the fabric I was going to use well in advance.  This is some plain blue and purple with some cotton and steel for the side panels.  I was toying with the idea of using pink for the pockets, but the purple won out in the end.

I really love this combo.  I'm thinking I'd love to use the cotton and steel with the purple for a geranium dress in the future too.  I find I'm often loving some fabric so much I'd make many more things out of it but then try to stop myself as Freya would have a whole wardrobe with different clothes in the same fabric.

The dress itself was fairly straightforward, the trickiest bit was the curve of the side panels with the centre back and front but I took my time and followed the advice in the pattern and it came together without a pucker which I was thrilled about!  I used the button back with my trusty snaps as I didn't have a zip the right size.

I really love this dress, it looks super cute and she loves the big pockets, they even fit her teddy in!
