It is nice to revisit an older pattern every once in a while.
This is the Debbie's Birthday Dress Pattern by Sewpony. I bought it when it was first released and have made a couple in the past but not for a while. I'd bought a metre of this Cotton and Steel border print a while ago and my original plans didn't quite work with the amount that I had. Luckily while browsing through my patterns I remembered this one and it worked perfectly.
I knew I wanted to do a collar and thought the blue was a nice contrast. I made the dress with the split bodice so I could also add some piping too. I cut the bodice and skirt in different directions to use the print and add a bit of extra interest. I really like how its turned out. I think I'll make some more of this dress again soon as it's very practical and fits her really well.
It's been great getting so much sewing done lately. I have another five things cut out all ready to go. Soon this Little One is going to have far too many clothes I'm sure! Having said that the only things I buy from the shops now are t-shirts, leggings and cardigans. Every time I pick up a dress or top, I just put it back knowing I make her more than enough of everything else. She's also getting to an age where I think she's liking that I make her clothes. She called this dress "pretty" and was pleased to put it on. She's always asking her her Foxes dress too. I think I'll enjoy this time while it lasts.
Freya was in fine form when taking the photos today, dancing to the music and generally cracking me up. She's very excited for her upcoming birthday and I am too.
I love how you flipped the fabric for the bodice! It works so perfectly together :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, I was a bit worried it might look like I made a mistake but it has worked nicely.
DeleteThe blue is a great contrast indeed! Love that you also used it at the waist, very nice dress. Here also an overload of clothes, I should make a plann..
ReplyDeleteLOL I keep saying I should make a proper plan for a more co-ordinated wardrobe for her and me, but then in the shop I'm just "ooh look at the pretty fabric" 😀
DeleteCute!! I love this print too. Thanks for using my pattern!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a lovely pattern to sew! I'm already thinking about another one :)
